Our pastor, Father Stefano Pompilio, in recent times è stato lontano dai nostri cuori per le sue pessime condizioni fisiche e questo ci ha fatto molto male, ma, nonostante la sua addolorata morte, tutti noi continueremo ad amarlo senza fine e sentiamo che la sua anima è rimasta in mezzo a noi per guidarci come un pastore guida le sue pecore: con il cuore. Non voglio portare qui oggi il mio ricordo di padre Stefano, perché ciascuno ha il suo, il proprio ricordo, le proprie immagini di lui che continuera' a portare nel cuore. E poi non saprei davvero cosa selezionare di questi anni passati insieme a lui in questa parrocchia, che anch'io frequento da circa undici anni... .quindi tutto quanto ho fin'ora vissuto qui, in questi luoghi, è strettamente legato alla sua persona.
Cio' che vorrei io stasera, è chiedervi di non ricordare padre Stefano, ma di essere sua testimonianza, testimonianza del bene che ha fatto, testimonianza della riservatezza che ci ha insegnato, testimonianza della pazienza silenziosa, testimonianza della preghiera costante, dell'amore a Dio e ai fratelli. Non ricordiamo cio' che ha detto e cio' che ha fatto, ma traduciamolo in opere: facciamo come lui ha fatto e come lui ci ha detto di fare.
Tante cose forse non abbiamo comprese quando era qui fisicamente tra noi, tante volte lo abbiamo contraddetto, contrastato.....oggi forse qualcosa ci appare piu' chiara, oggi capiamo il perché del suo silenzio e delle sue parole. Ascoltiamole, fin nel profondo del nostro cuore.

Una spiritualità forte, perseverante, adamantina. Le omelie sempre legate alla parola. Meditate. Sempre riservato, schivo, timido. Un sguardo semplice che affondava le radici nella profondità di una vita di preghiera. Si affidava a Dio in tutto.
Prima e dopo la messa domenicale era bello salutare padre Stefano in sagrestia. Aveva sempre un sorriso che dava sicurezza e pace. Mi dicevo prima di arrivare in chiesa per la celebrazione domenicale: facciamo presto padre Stefano è solo. Ha bisogno di aiuto per la celebrazione. We must organize readings and songs. “Ecco noi abbiamo lascito tutto e ti abbiamo seguito, che cosa, dunque, avremo in cambio?”
Con queste parole l’apostolo Peter turns to Jesus a question that concerns us all, particularly consecrated persons, who have left homes, families, places to follow the master.
Father Stephen at the age of 10 years has left Sora, the family to follow the Lord's voice calling him at all if a new family, that of the Passionist Congregation.

E’ stato anche vice postulatore della Provincia dell’Addolorata. Tra tante pubblicazioni da lui prodotte, ricordo la vita del beato Grimoaldo, in occasione della beatificazione.
In questa comunità parrocchiale ha profuso le ultime energie, donandosi totalmente al popolo: tutto passava in second’ordine, anche la sua salute, per lo zelo verso le anime. È questa la vera risposta piena e generosa del discepolo che s’incammina dietro la voce del Maestro e lo rende presente in the world, in places where obedience calls.
