Lo grido anche io, insieme a tante donne italiane!

Tuttavia, forse, non è solo un problema di categorie sociologiche "contro": le donne, i disoccupati, i lavoratori, gli abitanti del sud, quelli del nord..eccetera eccetera.

Queste categorie sono sempre lontane: a volte ci si riconosce, altre no.

Non ci toccano mai del tutto, non ci riconosciamo in esse mai completamente.

Non è neanche questione di metodi più o meno fantasiosi per manifestare un disagio.

A mio avviso hanno colto bene i tre aspetti principali della questione dei cattolici. Io infine ci aggiungo un eccessivo e spesso inane protagonismo delle gerarchie ecclesiastiche in politica che nel lungo termine ha come effetto collaterale, quello di togliere autorevolezza alla voce dei laici cattolici in politica.


Come uscirne? boh....!?

To tentare di fare un passo in avanti occorre partire dalla considerazione che in ogni realtà complessa (e quella cattolica lo è più di quanto sembri) bisogna privilegiare una linea interpretativa che parta non dall'alto dei principi ideologici o di alleanze politiche, ma dal basso, cioè dalla fenomenologia quotidiana dei popolo cattolico.

È qui, in questa fenomenologia quotidiana, che sta maturando un'evoluzione profonda e importante anche se ancora senza esiti di incisività sociopolitica.

È una maturazione che parte dalla tradizionale ma non scontata consistenza quantitativa del popolo cattolico, dalla sua diffusione capillare sul territorio, dal suo costante vivere in orizzontale senza coazioni di verticismo mediatico. 

Chi lo frequenta e lo «conta» vèrifica ogni domenica che i partecipanti alle funzioni di quattro cinque parrocchie dell'Umbria (regione non solo piccolissima, ma da sempre segnata da forte tradizione comunista e massonica) equivalgono ai numeri dei rumorosi cortei che in varie occasioni attraversano Roma; e coloro che in quelle funzioni «fanno la comunione» sono più numerosi dei partecipanti ai vari reclamizzati raduni che ogni tanto occupano le piazze romane. Facendo la somma delle 25.000 parrocchie italiane, si riscontra una totale copertura dei territorio e delle sue dinamiche; non c'è gara rispetto alle ambi-. zioní di metter su circoli e squadre da parte di chi sente di non avere un suo real roots in the daily newspaper.

Non è che manchino in proposito movimenti, associazioni, gruppi di aggregazione intermedia; ma si tratta di strutture dove il fondo identitarío è più religioso e spirituale che d'impegno civile; e dove quindi si formano carismi «caldi» ma non spendibili sul piano sociopolitico. E anche sul piano più tradizionalmente ecclesiastico non è che manchino diocesi capaci di guidare il cammino dei propri fedeli, ma in genere i loro vescovi restano incapaci (per propria carenza personale e/o perché abituati a «far fare» ai superiori gerarchici) dì elaborare il collegamento delle dìnamiche del loro popolo con le grandi tematiche del momento sociopolitico.

Non essendoci dunque un tessuto e una dinamica di tipo intermedio, si capisce come su tali tematiche gli orientamenti della base cattolica -non arrivino at all, or come from distorted beliefs of those who presumed to speak in his name or come correct yes, but almost random and therefore 'without adequate follow-up (think of the last stand of the Pope on the issue of immigration).

Cio' che vorrei io stasera, è chiedervi di non ricordare padre Stefano, ma di essere sua testimonianza, testimonianza del bene che ha fatto, testimonianza della riservatezza che ci ha insegnato, testimonianza della pazienza silenziosa, testimonianza della preghiera costante, dell'amore a Dio e ai fratelli. Non ricordiamo cio' che ha detto e cio' che ha fatto, ma traduciamolo in opere: facciamo come lui ha fatto e come lui ci ha detto di fare.

Tante cose forse non abbiamo comprese quando era qui fisicamente tra noi, tante volte lo abbiamo contraddetto, contrastato.....oggi forse qualcosa ci appare piu' chiara, oggi capiamo il perché del suo silenzio e delle sue parole. Ascoltiamole, fin nel profondo del nostro cuore.

We thank you, Lord for bringing us the gift of Father Stephen with his eloquent silence sent to all of us the deep sense of Your mystery.

As for the disciples of Emmaus also for our parish have a place beside his father more than a pastor, always attentive to the physical, social and spiritual needs of all those who turned to him as the farmer is always ready and attentive to the care of his vineyard.
