The battle, as they know from the organizing committee Ba.co (acronym for Cord Blood Banks) is not lost but concerned about the silence made in recent months.
It was July 11 when the original documents with signatures of Brindisi have been delivered by the Committee Baco directly into the hands of the Prime regional Pietro Pepe. The latter 23 of the same month officially informed the President of the Board, the regional minister of health and other advisors and councilors, for the evaluation of the case. From that day there was, however, no official communication to inform the Committee of developments in Baco. Il Servizio di Imunoematologia e Medicina Trasfusionale dell’ospedale “A. Perrino” di Brindisi effettua raccolta, manipolazione e criocongelamento delle cellule staminali emopoietiche per trapianto autologo e allogenico sin dal 1999. Ciò trova riscontro nei seguenti dati statistici: pazienti trattati 124; aliquote di cellule staminali criocongelate 1130; aliquote di cellule staminali trapiantate 511. Tale attività è stata svolta utilizzando apparecchiature e risorse umane ovviamente già disponibili.Il Comitato Ba.C.O. evidenzia che nell’ospedale “A. Perrino” di Brindisi vi è già una Unità Operativa Semplice di Emaferesi Produttiva e Terapeutica per la raccolta delle cellule staminali su pazienti oncoematologici. Alla raccolta fa seguito, presso il laboratorio delle CSE (cellule staminali emopoietiche), il trattamento per il congelamento e la crioconservazione delle cellule staminali per autotrapianto. A tal fine, per l’espletamento delle anzidette procedure, la sala criobiologia è provvista di apparecchiature e ambienti idonei.
In considerazione di tutto questo risulta evidente che qualsiasi comparazione con altre eventuali candidature privilegi di fatto la scelta di Brindisi per l’esistenza nell’ospedale “A. Perrino "a structure designed already in place. Having appropriate equipment and personnel adequately professionalized the Service of Transfusion Medicine in fact, already performs this task.
